‘...the slow-cooked, soulful flavour of wood roasted coffee’
|
FAZENDA UKFazenda UK is the British arm of a family run Italian coffee business, established in 1981 in Fuiggi, 60km south of Rome. In Portugese, a Fazenda is a farm and factory that undertakes the entire coffee producing process - from growing the beans right through to putting them into sacks. Antonio Battisti, the founder and coffee roasting 'torrefactor', has absolute respect for coffee and the traditional wood roasting process. It's a passionate vocation for him to sensitively produce great coffee using this age-old method. It's hand-roasted coffee for coffee's and people's sake, Antonio tells us. Much like the contemporary art they display in the gallery below their shop in Spitalfields, London. Wood roasted coffee is divided into two big 'spaces': ROBUSTA - strong, agressive, impacting, with a hint of wood in your mouth, and ARABICA - much more delicate, sweet, fruity and gentle. The roasting process they use for both these coffee types is intensive and hands-on, requiring great attention to detail to draw out the soulful terrior of the lands where the coffee beans are grown. Fazenda commonly source their fine coffees from: The Congo, Ivory Coast, India, Colombia, Honduras, Ethiopia, Brazil - Alpha/Guaxape, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and Kenya. |
